Frimley Green Cricket Club vs Westfield Saints - Sunday 20th July 2014, 14:00

9-man FGCC continued their up-down season (WLWLWL) with a dreadful defeat at the hands of Westfield Saints. Losing the toss and being asked to bowl in the baking sun, Frimley Green started well, with Jim Barker and Nick Gates keeping things tight before Alan Greaves and David Huggett continued the trend. At the halfway point of the innings, FGCC were well on top. However, the Westfield batsmen, having played themselves in, finished strongly, taking the score to a very respectable 156/5, despite a fine effort with the ball from Dave Brown. Then... woe. Batsman after batsman departed thanks to suicidal shots - every one of them out caught, most of them in the slips or gully. Dave Brown's innings was cut short prematurely - he was convinced that bat had hit pad, but the finger of doom was raised. Finally last man David Huggett walked to the crease just as FGCC's lowest-ever score had been passed. He rubbed salt into the batsmen's wounds by slapping returning opening bowler Sohail for 3 successive boundaries, making him the inning's highest scorer, before Jon Prior was dismissed by one final slip catch. Addendum: this was the first time in FGCC history that the last man was the highest-scoring batsman. Shame on you, top and middle order - power to the bowlers!
