Milford vs Frimley Green Cricket Club - Sunday 22nd May 2016, 13:00

Frimley Green Cricket Club (234/5) beat Milford (203/9) by 31 runs

Match Detail
An opening partnership of 141 between vice-captain Mark Russell and FGCC stalwart Alan Greaves proved to be the winning equation in Frimley Green's first win of 2016 against a spirited Milford side. Batting first, and with Greavsie promoted to opener having spent 3/4 of the last match with an ice-pack round his forearm, the mathematicians started things well, keeping the scoring rate at around 5 per over. With Greavsie playing anchor, Mark was free to dispatch the leg-side balls to the boundary, doing this to some aplomb and bringing up his 3rd 50 in a row off only 44 balls. Once Greavsie had departed after following Mark to a half-century, the tide of runs showed no sign of abating, with Ants (who hit 2 mammoth sixes out of the ground), Graeme and Anu playing aggressive cameos. FGCC's innings ended on 234-5, their best total for over 5 years. In reply and with a daunting score to chase down, Milford came out hitting. Good opening spells by Kevin and Rus kept things relatively tight, but soon balls started to disappear to the boundary with some regularity. Cue debutant Aaron Hunt, whose nippy seamers did for Wood with a peach of a delivery, and also the safe hands of Antony Johnson, whose sharp catch taken on the second attempt did for T.Goodship in the over after drinks, but not before he'd made 63. A mid-innings spell of tight bowling by Jim and Tim kept FGCC well in touch, and although towards the end of the innings a few of the Milford bowlers swung the bat Frimley Green held (most of) their catches, took wickets at key times (both Kevin and Tim ending with 3 a-piece) and eventually saw the game out with Tim bowling Singh to secure the victory.
