Frimley Green Cricket Club vs Battersea Eagles - Sunday 19th June 2016, 14:00

Battersea Eagles (265 all out) beat Frimley Green Cricket Club (168/7) by 97 runs

Match Detail
A (literally) 11th hour opposition change saw FGCC take on new opposition in the form of a talented and all-round decent Battersea Eagles side. Winning the toss under murky skies, Jim elected to bowl before the weather took a turn for the worse. However, the Battersea batsmen made light of the testing conditions, with balls crossing the boundary with alarming regularity. It was only opening bowler Anu - whose absolute snorter did for Battersea opener Rehan - who ended up with half-respectable figures. 50s for Battersea batsmen Hamza, Harris and Adam saw a scoring rate in excess of a run-a-ball, despite being 140-6 at one point and both Jim (2 wickets) and debutant Suresh (3 wickets) taking scalps. In the face of a huge total and with the rain starting to come down, Anu and Mark started in promising fashion only for both to depart relatively cheaply. With batsmen getting in and not pushing on (although credit to Graeme and Jim for their 20s), it was left to FGCC chairman Ants to display a masterclass on how to take on slow bowling in trying conditions. His 46no was testament to both patience and fine judgement, and although FGCC ended someway short of the total to not only get a game on in the first place, but to also play against such fine and gentlemenly opposition was a feat in itself. A good day's cricket - just a shame about the result.
