Frimley Green Cricket Club, on probably their last tour to Cardiff, went out in style, battered but not broken. After a heavy Saturday night on the tiles, 6 FGCC players were somewhat the worse for wear, none moreso than David Huggett. He was twice sick on the boundary, but immediately recovered to bowl 4 overs and field for the entire 40 overs. Miskin had won the toss and opted to bat on a belter of a pitch, on a scorcher of a day. FGCC's fielding was understandably under-par, partly due to the previous night's excesses, partly because of the weather. Everything fell for Miskin, and their number 3 ate the bowlers for breakfast, hitting a quickfire 118, including several half-chances, before retiring. They eventually racked up a commanding 312, with only Nick Gates managing respectable figures, with an excellent 4/20 from his 8 overs.
After devouring an excellent tea FGCC were never close to the required rate, and instead aimed to score more than half of Miskin's total. They managed this thanks to a rock-solid innings from Alan Greaves, who did a great job against some very tricky bowling. Late in the innings Mike McAuliffe hit a superb 28 from just 16 balls, and Nick Gates conjured a typically belligerent cameo, with 27 from just 10 balls. |
